The Institute syllabus is structured chronologically in order to provide a historical arc of cultural developments over the course of the Cold War period, 1945-90. Within this overarching framework, guiding questions and themes are drawn from recent scholarship. (Please note: the syllabus is still subject to adjustment.)
The Institute attempts to intertwine treatments of the visual arts, music, and film throughout, in an approach that prioritizes interdisciplinary exchange and cross-fertilization, while offering a structured overview of developments.
Participants are also offered pedagogical and research development opportunities in the form of targeted workshops and curriculum project development and exchange, as well as individual meetings with international faculty members.
